Went to Cachuma early Sunday. Forgot my liscence but the good thing about the new system is for 9 bucks, you can get a reprint which is good all year-like having 2 liscences!! Specifically going for Carp. I brought dough, corn chunk of mack, and some anchovies from last night pizza. They were schooling and boiling on the surface as I cut across towards a point dropped the bait-trebble hook under a bobber- 3 or 4 times in the exact right places. Adrenilin was pumping, but that was about it. Worked the private dock near Mohawk-nada. Then up a cove, had two, side by side, big bass follow my bait twice before my eyes, but couldn't get em to bite. Anchored up and tried for awhile-zip. Then a couple points later, sun comes out and the water is really clear-there they are-more bass- and carp and blue gill-.... the mother load... 1st off, landed 1 what I think is a small mouth. Solid 12 incher on a drop shotted nightcrawler. 1/2 hour later and no more bass biting but I know they are there. Wind picking up, so are the blue gill, switch to a small jig head and start reeling them in.About 15 landed 10 lost. Kept 3 bigger ones for a live well pic and released. In the mean time I saw MANY carp in that flat. I guess if I want a carp, I'm gonna have to get a bow. So I guess I'm lookin for a bow setup, but I'm on a budget, I'm sure you all know what I mean Good thing I got that liscence copy-got checked by DFG when I came in. He was on the water in a kayak, followed my in and checked me out, in fact, he took the pic of me.... Cachuma again next Sat AM. for sure in stone...see ya' then...have a good week...
Great day Paul. That's a Large MB. Google hair rig too I think that makes a big difference for hook ups on carp. I've only fished carp a few times but the last time was with the hair rig and it seemed to work better.
cool report, thanks............................................................................ Big-D and the dog
I've always done my best just using hotdog buns for carp bait. Just chum a little bit then flyline a some bun on a treble. I use a bubble sinker half full of water if I gotta launch it out a ways. You better get the yak out in the big lake soon things should start to happen inshore.
Nice, I always wanted to go after the carp at Perris with an atlatl instead of a bow. The caribou hunting in So Cal is terrible so what else you gonna do?
